Upholstery: The One Everyone Forgets

Here's a question for you. Your sofa gets used every single day, right? Sometimes for hours at a stretch. But when was the last time it was actually cleaned? And I don't mean chucking the cushion covers in the washing machine. I'm talking about the actual fabric, the arms, the back, all those bits where crumbs and pet hair set up camp.

Hard Floors

Driveway and Patio

External Walls and Render

If your house has rendered or pebble-dashed walls, have a good look for green algae growth, particularly on north-facing walls that don't get much sun. This is really common across Tamworth, Fazeley, and the wider Midlands. Left untreated, algae can permanently stain render and make your house look neglected, even if the rest of the place is spotless.

A soft wash (low-pressure cleaning with a biocide solution) is the safest way to clean rendered walls without damaging the surface. This really isn't a DIY job. Using a standard pressure washer on render can force water behind the surface and cause damp, which is the opposite of what you're trying to achieve.

The Jobs Most People Forget

Before I let you go, here are a few things that almost everyone overlooks during a spring clean. Don't worry, I forget half of these myself.

• Behind and under the fridge. Pull it out. Clean the coils at the back (it'll actually run more efficiently afterwards too). Mop the floor underneath. Prepare yourself for what you find.
• Mattresses. Vacuum the top and sides. If you can manage it, stand it up and let it air for a few hours. Consider a professional mattress clean if anyone in the house has allergies.
• Light fittings and ceiling fans. Dust builds up on top of lampshades and fan blades all winter long. A damp cloth sorts it out in minutes, but nobody ever thinks to look up there.
• Washing machine. Run an empty hot cycle with a cup of white vinegar. It clears the drum of residue and gets rid of that musty smell that's been bothering you since November.
• Wheelie bins. Give them a scrub with hot soapy water and a long-handled brush. They get genuinely disgusting over winter. Your nose will thank you when summer arrives.
